What do you do when it's cold and snowy....

well, I move furniture around!
I had fun on Friday playing around in this room
and making it fresh and new.  You may notice I am forcing
Spring, at least in the decorating of this room.

I'd love to get new furniture for this room. But it's not in the budget
right now.  Plus, truthfully, this sofa is really really comfortable!
Not a fan of this slipcover.  Seems I am constantly fixing it. But
compared to what's under it, this will have to do!
Goodbye early 90's!

I really prefer photos with my low light lamps on. But, I have a
hard time getting the pictures to look like the rooms actually look
on my camera.  It is much cozier then these photos feel!

I've had this apple picking ladder for quite a few years now. But, I've
had it upstairs in our landing/computer room.  This space needed
something, so down it came and I like it.  I hung the black wicker
basket there to hold extra magazines and of course a "wreath" of
sorts with a small round tole painted tray.

My husband made the sofa table and I cut a burlap coffee bag in half and
used the printed side as the table covering.
I like that it adds texture and isn't just plain ol' burlap.

Mallory gave me this bird pillow cover from Pottery Barn for Christmas.
The old battery water crock is used to hold kindling and small pieces
of firewood.  It needs to be filled up, we had a fire going all day
Sat. and Sun.  It was so warm and toasty!

We have two huge openings to the rest of our Home
from this room.  It makes it hard to arrange furniture along with
the huge radiators that heat our Home.  So this corner is hard
to make look nice.

But, I brought this chair down from the upstairs landing
and it sure is comfy.  Perfect spot for Brad to sit and enjoy
the view of the fireplace.  The picture hanging is one of the
originals of our Home when it was first built.  It's nice to have.

I can never seem to get a good picture of either of our fireplaces
but, they look much better in person.  We use our fireplaces and they
are wood burning.  So there is soot and ashes always.  Oh well!
The hounds didn't leave the spot right in front
 of this fireplace all weekend!

Lastly, I found this cute little bird picture at our local Restore
for 50 cents.  I believe it is crewel, but I could be wrong. I hate
seeing someones handiwork at a place like goodwill or a thrift store
just thrown in a box.  I know how much work these things take
and if I like them, they come Home with me.  I have this
sitting on our mantle....I think it fits!

Thanks for taking the time to see what I've done with this room!
Maybe someday I will get my pictures to look/feel like my room
actually does.  Maybe!

Have a warm and cozy day, it's getting colder out there!

You want it, We've got it!...

 To our Winter Wonderland!

Brad was out snow blowing and I thought I would
get a few pictures.  It is so fresh and clean looking!

We still have out our chicken feeder arrangements from Christmas.

They'll probably be here for Valentine's,
I think the red berries will be perfect then too!

Amazing with all the strong gusts of wind we've had that
this snow stays so perfectly shaped on this little bird feeder.

These pine trees are right outside our living room window.

 Hello purple coneflowers....

I wonder how many loads of this we've used this weekend?
Lots I tell you!

Well, I just thought I'd share for those of you
in the warmer climates!

You're,

Hope you're having a warm and cozy Sunday!

He apologized profusely!...

Just a quick update to my previous post!

My daughter had the whole weekend off, but was scheduled to work
Monday.  As much as she didn't want to go....
being the responsible woman we raised her to be,
she showed up for her shift.  As did the other girl  they
"promoted" into our daughter's position!

At some point during her day, the general manager talked to her
about what took place.  It does appear someone acted
a bit to quickly and that person, as it sounds, is the person
in the general office HR.

Her GM couldn't apologize enough, and told her he didn't sleep
all weekend because he felt so bad how it all played out.
He told her how well she does her job and if it were totally
up to him he would promote her with no problem!!

The good thing is she still has her position!
And she got the accolades she needed to hear that
helped her self esteem after having something so
devastating happen!

Sadly, the girl woman that thought she got a promotion,
is a single mom with 3 kids and would have finally
been a full time associate!!
So our daughter wasn't the only one hurt by this
BIG MISTAKE!

Apparently that is why she was told
If she calls general office she would make it worse for her!
I'm guessing the HR person would then be in trouble,
I would hope anyway!

I'm still her Mom.....
even if she's over 18!

Very Happy :0)....Very Sad ;0(

Any Mom out there, and Dad too I am sure would feel the same way! No matter how old our children get, they are still our children and we want to protect them....to me it has been my job, being here for our girls.  Taking care of them, speaking for them.  But, as society will have it, once they turn 18 all of a sudden we as parents are no longer supposed to be their voice.  We can no longer call and get their grades at college or speak to their professors or call them in sick for work, none of that is acceptable once they turn 18.  All of a sudden my job is supposed to be done, but my heart tells me different.  I still want to protect them, stick up for them tell their bosses they can't do that to my child.  But, I cant!

Two of our girls are in the working world.  They have big girl jobs and have done quite well at them!  They both work for the same company, Menard's. They both have loved working for this company and have never complained about having to work, even on a holiday. They have advanced at about the same rate and are both managers in the front end of the store. As with most jobs, you hope for advancement and to grow with the company.  Our girls have been lucky to do so!

Two management positions became available one level up from their current position at different stores.  They each put in that they were interested in these positions.  One was set up for an interview with the general manager at the store she was interested in on Tuesday and was told she would have an answer Weds. or Thursday.  The other called Thursday and was told she had an interview with the general manager at that store the next day after she got out of work at 4 p.m.

She went to work the next day, Friday and within a half hour of arriving at 7 a.m. she was told she had the job at the store and all she had to do was show up and sign papers. She hadn't even interviewed yet! She was told general office had already sent her paper work to that store the night before and she basically had the job!!!  Her job as she discovered was already posted at the current store she works at.  In fact, they were so sure she had the job, they hired someone within that store to fill her position and had that girl sign all her papers, to make it official.  Our daughter was told she was expected to start tomorrow, Sunday!

She was so excited and called me on her break to tell me the exciting news!  She couldn't wait to get out at 4 p.m. so she could drive 100 miles to the new store she was going to be 1st front end manager at.  She lined up a friend that said she could stay with her until she found something.  She was so excited and we of course, were so excited for her!

Her general manager, on his way out the door, said to her "Well, this is the last time I will see you, Good Luck!" and he went home.

4:02 p.m. my phone rings....it's her.....bawling almost uncontrollably....at the end of the day, she got called back to the back office and was told SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE JOB AFTER ALL!!!!
No explanations! She was told She Could NOT call general office because it would just make it WORSE for her!  Really?....she can't call the corporate office of Menard's and find out what happened between 7 a.m. and being told she got a promotion to 3:30 p.m. and being told you don't even have an interview.  Really??  The HR coordinator doesn't even know what happened....NO ONE has a reason! As my 83 yr old FIL says, " Someone is saving face!" Someone did something and wants to cover it up....AT HER EXPENSE!

This is not right! Everything and Everybody already knew or thought she had the job! Even the General Office for Menard's said she had the job!  Her job was listed and already filled with someone else Who Thought They Got A Promotion!  How is this right??? How can a company like Menard's  ALLOW this to happen to their associates?

I want to protect her!  I wanted to go to the store she works at and find out what in the ____ went wrong!  I wanted to call the store that she was supposed to have a new job at and find out What was happening!  My baby was hurt....she was vulnerable....  I can't do anything....she's over 18, she's an Adult!  She has to fend for herself, she's a Grown Up!  A Grown-up who is hurting and wounded and embarrassed and has NO answers and has to show up to work Monday and pretend that everything is okay!  Does she still have her position, because someone messed up??!!

There are no answers!

But, on the other hand I am Happy!  Our other daughter did get her promotion and did sign her papers.....my emotions are so messed up right now!  How do we do this fairly!  Be Happy for one and Sad for the other!  And still have no answers!  Life is not fair....Corporate America is not fair!  This is not acceptable for people to be treated this way! People who are good honest workers and actually Love their jobs!  This is how they get treated??

I want answers......but, apparently I can't get them because my baby is over 18!
