A little Sumpin', sumpin'.....

I've been doing a bit of tweaking in our living room lately.
and I've really been having fun with it.  This is a room
that I haven't done a whole lot too thru the years.  I've only
painted it twice in the 14 years we've lived here.  We've used
it mainly for Christmas time.  Until now!

Now, these past few Snowy weeks, of not being able to
~Go Anywhere!~
because of the weather, I've been updating and rearranging.
I have a "bird" theme going on in this room.
I love my birds!

We also love this antique secretary and have had
it for Years!  This will be a piece that will never
see a paint brush.  It is a very heavy piece and has
never been moved from this site since the day we
moved in almost 14 yrs ago.

I have 2 or 3 more shelves in our basement.
~I think!~

But, I only have 3 of these wooden brackets that hold the shelves
in place.  So I am waiting for my guy to make more.
Tick Toc....I am very patient!

So I came up with an idea for the back of this to update it a bit.
At our local big box store they have a section of pre packaged
material and I found this printed burlap 36" x 44"....

It fit almost perfectly in the back of this cabinet.
I had the velcro and decided that would be perfect
to hold it in place.  Then if I get tired of it I can
simply remove it with no problem.

We have been adding to our white dishware
and I thought what a perfect spot for some of
the random pieces.

My Mom cross stitched this Heart sampler for
me years ago.  My initials are in the center
and I've always kept it in here.  It's perfect for
Valentines Day, but I may move it after that.
It looks like it's competing with the burlap.
Don't you think?

This little pitcher just goes with my bird theme.
I saw it last week at our local Thrift store and it was
a whopping $1.99.  I thought that was too much!
It's small!  But, I went there on Tuesday of this week
and it was in the .10 cent section.  So it came home with me!

So this is the before....not bad!

And this is the after!
Can you see what's missing?
I thought I had everything back in like before....
until I started doing this post....
Oh well, too late to take another picture!
I'm sure you've all done that before!
Thanks for your visit!

I don't blame you for not painting the secretary, it is so nice the way that it is. I really am not a paint furniture fan, only a couple of pieces in my home. The cross stitch that your mother made is so cute too! Love those bassetts on the sidebar.

  3. I'm so very glad that you will never paint your lovely secretary!! It looks like it has burl veneered and is really a lovely piece. It's sad seeing mahogany, cherry and oak being painted. Of course it's according to the age of the piece and if it's solid wood, but again --- To each his own!! The sidebar is nice!!

  6. Lisa, I love that you won't use a paint brush on your cherished piece...not everything has to be painted! LOL That printed burlap fabric is wonderful...it looks great and how smart that you can remove it when you want a change. I totally agree, I am constantly tweaking and changing things so I am a big fan of "temporary" measures for decor.

  7. I really like the burlap in the back of this. I have a wood shelf that I am trying to decide if I should paint , the husband just cringes at the thought of paint on wood, but the dark wood background just doesn't display well. The burlap you used really lightens it up and updates it. Nice job!
