Our Little Day Trip....

My youngest daughter was on mid-winter break this past weekend.
It ended yesterday, President's Day.
After being around the house and all that had happened over the weekend,
I needed to get out, so we took a little day trip.
On our trip we went by quite a few Amish homes.
I don't know why, but ever since I was little/younger, I have
been so curious about the Amish.
This area had three homes right in a row....

They sell baked goods, quilts, and baskets I believe.

They also run a sawmill.

This is the third home, it sits way back from the road....

see the laundry hanging in the frigid air.

Mmmm....I bet it smells wonderful though!

This is a beautiful farm.

I love the buggy, tucked in there.

It must be laundry day!

This home is lovely, so clean....they all are.

This home sells baskets also.

This is beautiful to drive by. A smaller home behind the larger one.

Don't they call those the Dawdy house....
where the grandparents live? I might be wrong!

Then Came the Surprise....

I took my DD #3 to get her hair done!

She has been begging me for weeks now!

She thought we were going to the mall....
and wondered why I drove in the other direction.

Ha, ha, ha......

She really was surprised....she's just being silly!

She's checking herself in the mirror....
And likes what she sees!

They grow up so fast!

  3. Hi Lisa,
we live in the middle of amish country!
Our best friends are amish! We call their 3 children our amish grandbabies! :-)
Their homes are very simple.... no un-necessary clutter or pictures or knick knacks!
    Just the basic things!

Yes the little house is called a dawdy house! The oldest son or daughter takes over the big house and the parents move into the dawdy house to retire and live out their lives.

What part of michigan do you live in????

  4. Hi Lisa...hope things are getting back to normal around your home. Sounds like you had a wonderful time yesterday. We went on vacation a couple of years ago and stayed in Intercourse, PA on our way to the New England states. We ate at an Amish restaurant. The dinner was served "family style". We sat at a table with 3 other families. The food was scrumptious. Everything was homemade. The rolls were to die for!

I was going to ask you the same question that Dolly asked...What part of Michigan do you live in?

By the way, your daughter is beautiful...great hair.

  5. We don't have any Amish folks in our corner. We do have some Shakers, though. Not quite the same...

Your daughter is a beautiful gal with a great new do.

Thanks for your visits...you leave fun comments.
