Another First....

This is my Dad!

and this is the first time he has come to visit me,
without Mom!

I had been after him, since Mom passed, to come up and visit
maybe even stay a night (or two). But he has always come up
with an excuse as to why he couldn't.

I try and call my Dad every few days, to see how he is
and what he's been doing. He seems to be "okay",
but lonely at times, who wouldn't be after losing your
partner of 60 yrs!

So, when I called the other day and asked how he was,
he said fine. Then he said are you going to be Home
I said, no plans as far as I know, (of course).....

Are you coming up???

Yes, I'm thinking about it....
I'd like to take you guys out for dinner.

He calls lunch, dinner!

He asked will the girls be around?
I explain the older 2 will be working,
but, the youngest should be.

Good he said!

Turns out the only one Home....
was Me!

So we went to....
just the two of us!

He brought their dog....
Lilly, Mom's baby....
they rescued her a few years ago!
Lilly, still is looking for Mom....
Dad says!

He stayed about 3 1/2 hours,
that's the normal amount of time.
Mom used to get so mad at him, it seemed they would just get here,
after an 1 1/2 hour drive,
and Dad would be ready to go.

Some things never change!

But, he came....

and we talked....

I hope it's not the last time!

But, I'm glad the "first time" is over!

It was hard....

but, it was needed!

I Love You Dad!

  1. Great post Lisa!

May this be the first of "many" visits to see you and hopefully one of those will turn into an overnight visit. That first step was really important for him to take alone, that was a huge step.

Well done Dad! By the way you look "marvelous". :)

This was so great to hear.

  2. Lisa.. I'm hoping this will be the first of many. Maybe he needed to get over that first as well. Bless his heart... he needed you, and didn't hesitate to call. I call that a step forward. Glad you enjoyed your dinner.
Funny... my dad's side of the family has always called lunch dinner, and "dinner".. supper.

  3. I'm so happy that your da was finally able to make the visit solo, I'm sure it was difficult for steps, one ata time and God will see you all through!

  4. Lisa, in response to your comment. We ARE talking about the same famly. Lovina is the daughter of Elizabeth Coblentz. She was the original columnist. Yes, she did die, actually while on "tour". Her daughter took over the column. :O)

  5. Men, even dads are so different from us women. This is a great start. What a special time for you. I hope you have many more visits.

  6. Oh Lisa! That's wonderful news! I'm sure it will be the first of many. Well, maybe "more" given his history! LOL But it's a start. I remember the first time my dad-in-law stopped by after mom (my MIL) passed away last fall. He was very proud of himself to be out and about on his own finally too. And, he didn't stay very long either! LOL Yepp, these times in our lives are so unsettling aren't they? Changes, changes, changes. People coming and going...I guess we must learn to adapt and make the best of them. Take them one day at a time and remember to count our blessings, right? Hugs to you!

  7. Oh! BTW! I love that picture of your Dad! Makes me want to hug the stuffin' out of him! :)

  8. Lisa, I read your message about contact via e-mail and would LOVE to do so. I have been searching for a way to privately send you my e-mail address and have not yet found one! Clicking on our individual Followers button reveals a "send message" button. However, when I click on yours, I end up right back following my own! LOL I'll keep looking though! I've read on the Help Forum that this is often the case. That sometimes it works and others it does not.

  9. This makes me tear up. I lost my Dad five years ago and I truly feel for your entry into this journey. It is a journey... and you are obviously a very caring and loved daughter! Your Dad knows how much you care. I am glad you had time together.

    Becky K.

I would enjoy hearing from you!
