Night Views....

So after we walked around the island a bit

we headed back to the
Grand Hotel
to get ready for our evening!
I must say this place is gorgeous
all lit up at night.  My pictures sure don't
do it justice!  But, I hope you get the feel.
We had the perfect weekend to be there the
temps were perfect even after dark
to enjoy this beautiful porch!

There are over 100 rockers to sit back and relax in.

The ceiling of the porch and under all the
little "room stoops", not sure what they're called,
are painted a light blue, so the birds won't nest there.

This is the West end of the porch.

Outside looking in....
After 5:00 p.m.
only "proper" dress is allowed.
Men must wear a jacket and a tie,
back in the "olden" days women were
required to wear a dress, but now they allow
women to wear a dress or
nice slacks and a blouse or even a suit.

I like that they keep those traditions!

As the dinner hour comes to a close....

all of the waiters prepare for the next day.

The waiters are all men, that I saw,
and they are from the Caribbean we were told.

They return here year after year
and sometimes for generations.  When the season
comes to a close they move on to warmer climates
and work in other Hotels.  Saving their money earned
to send Home to their families.

I found that to be very touching!

This is the East end of the porch,
looking towards a golf course.  There was a party going
on, as you can see in the "tent" that's all lit up.

This is looking back toward the West end of the porch.
Beautiful geraniums and petunias.

Then it was back to our room...

Where we found that our bed had been
turned down with a chocolate on each pillow.

It doesn't get better then that!

  9. I love Mackinac Island. Despite living in Michigan for 40 years, I only visited there once. I'd love to get back there one day and stay at the Grand Hotel. It looks fabulous!
