Well I'm glad you finally surfaced.. LOL.. Just kidd'n. Spending time by the fire as the snow falls sounds just about perfect to me!
To answer you question about changing the background you can either go into template designer and use bloggers backgrounds OR you can go to a great free background site like Cutest blog on the block. You copy the HTML, then come back to your dashboard, click on add gadget, then choose add HTMIL/ Javascript, click on that box will open, paste in the HTML and save. Let me know if you need further help. Most of their background will go right over the blogger template you currently have.. I think. ;O)
