Laundry Room Demo in Progress....

 Welcome Back!
Thank you for sticking with me and being patient while
I get back into blogging after a too long break.

I'm kind of playing catch~up here with a few projects. The first one was when we did a makeover on one of our daughter's bedrooms, you can see it here if you missed that. We had so much fun with that room, I'd love for you to check it out! Now we are onto our Laundry Room. This room has needed something done with it for a long time. I'm really excited to do what we have planned and share that with you along the way. If you enjoy seeing the progress of how rooms come about as much as I do, then grab a cup of something to enjoy and I'll show you what we're doing.

This is where I left off from my last post about the room redo. You can check out that post here.

Below is an old, long time ago, picture of the original built in cupboards
They're staying of course!

(to the right is a peek into our kitchen)

My husband mentioned that he was pretty sure the ceiling was the same 11' as the rest of the downstairs. So we decided to peek up there and see if he was right...

So he carefully removed the trim work...

Amanda being the Demo Girl that she has become wanted to take the first peek

We made a cute little video (I've never added a video to a post, so the quality isn't great)
Move over Rehab Addict, there's a New Girl in town!
(any tips on the video will be appreciated)

And he was right....

Wow...very cool!

So this is the before...

and the After...
minus the door fronts, but NO worries!

Look at all the extra storage space....
Really, why would they cover that up?
What do you think? Should we have removed the ceiling?
Would you?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Stay Tuned!

We're Finally starting on the Laundry Room...

Welcome Back!
Wow, I haven't done a post about our Laundry Room in a long time. Maybe this post from the past will explain Why? Well, this past summer I had finally had enough with this hold everything that no one wants to deal with room, I mean really! Enough! So I said, Why don't we pull up that nasty old rug...

Luckily my husband was on board for the job and
it actually came up way easier then we thought.

But then we had this...
all the old adhesive!

Our daughter happened to be at Menard's so we called her up and
she picked up some adhesive remover for us and the fun work began.

We did it in smaller sections to keep it under control.
We had a routine and it really went quite quickly!

Then skip forward a week or TWO few days and our daughter was Home.
Again, I got this idea in my head that this counter that seemed to gather all kinds of CRAP unwanted stuff.....Had to Go!
I mean really, It was just a junk collector of all kinds of things. Not what I intended when we moved here 16 yrs ago. It was going to be this neatly kept place to stand and fold all the laundry that a family of 5 can accumulate on any given day. But that isn't how it worked out and Now we are Empty Nesters...time to Update!
The lady that lived here before us had a hair salon and that pipe stuff you see
hanging out was where her sink was attached.

So Amanda was quick to help with Demo Day!
She now is a Homeowner and has done quite a few things to her own Home.
She Loves a good DEMO!

We believe this room was the Original Kitchen when it was built back in 1879.
That is very old, very rough subway tile under the window with the holes for what was probably the sink and then a soap holder built in. Then of course the old radiator.
We still heat our Home with a boiler system that we updated about 10 yrs ago. It's an up and down kind of temperature during the winter months. If I set the heat anything over 63 degrees it's way too warm in here, especially upstairs.

At some point, peg board type stuff was put up (not by us) and it was papered in contact paper. I painted over it years ago to cover up the fruit theme. It worked for the time I needed it. But now it's gone! Yes!

After a little bit of wallpaper picking (I think there were at least 3 layers of old paper)
and a good mopping of the tile floor (which is the original little tiny tiles) we were
good to go!

Just having that much done felt so good. The room opened right up and I can't wait to show you all the things we are doing to bring this Laundry Room up~to~date. It has needed to be done for a long time! But Life happens, you know!

As always, Thank you for stopping by!
Stay tuned for updates...there will be a few!

It's been awhile and I'm in the kitchen...

Welcome back!
They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home. I know our kitchen is one of our favorite rooms in our Home. We haven't had sun in about 14 days the meteorologist said today, so I found a few pictures in my gallery that shows the sun and also shows how much light we get in our kitchen. If you've been following me for awhile you may remember our kitchen used to be red you can see it here. That is when we painted our kitchen this Espresso color. It's been about 5 yrs, but we still love this color and with all the bright light we get it handles it quite well!

One of my favorite spots is my coffee station right here by my window seat.

Just grab a mug and have a seat...

This whole wall is windows and the door to our backyard
lots of Sunshine!

Living in an older Home we have really high ceilings. They are about 11 ft. downstairs
My latest design theme is Industrial Farmhouse...we have lots of galvanized items, along with ironstone. Pretend you don't see the items on the bench seats...Oops! It's Real Life here!

I wanted a cow head to hang my aprons on. But I found the pig first, then I found the bull/cow, then I found the goose and then the rooster...all at either Thrift Stores or Estate Sales.  They fill this space well and they hold my aprons! I actually wear my aprons. Do you wear an apron?

They're quite large!

Then I found these cute little guys. The middle one is about 5"x 4"
and the other two are about 4" x 3.5" (if your're interested).
I couldn't pass them up!

I really like our kitchen at night. The light in real life isn't quite as bright,
but it adds a soft glow to the room....makes it inviting!

I found this plate a while back at Target and of course I had to have it
The cow came from a Thrift Store and my candle is from Finding Home!
I've really enjoyed this scent. My husband makes maple syrup for us
so I had to have this candle! They have some other lovely scents you
might want to check out for yourself here

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed my kitchen. I'd love to hear what your up to

There's a Cow in the bathroom...

Welcome!
Today I am going to share with you the Farmhouse Guest Room's bathroom.
I promise this will be a one and done post!
The walls were a dark grey and I painted them the same
Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter
as I did in the Farmhouse Guest Room. You can see a portion of the window that covers the whole width of the room. This room gets lots of sunshine during the day. But faces the street side of our house so curtains and blinds are a must for privacy.

The ladder barely fits in this room.
I have to do some fancy moves just to paint the walls.

Below you see the view from the bedroom.
Can you see how the light makes the bathroom look a
different color....same color, Revere Pewter!

I was so excited when I saw this cow print one day here at Cozy Little House.
I knew then I just had to have it for the bathroom in the Farmhouse Guest Room. So I ordered it that day from farmhouse wares. It's available again here, if your interested!

I immediately had to set it up in the bathroom to see if it would work where I thought I wanted it. The walls were a dark grey and I knew they would have to be painted the same Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter as the
 Farmhouse Guest Room.

Much better!

We changed out the wall sconces too.

We found similar sconces that are a antique bronzed color, we put the same ones in the Farmhouse Guest Room on each side of my Mom's dresser and one on the wall next to my Dad's dresser.

Again, Much better!
They really warm up the space, don't you agree?

The door you see blocked by the little dresser stand is the perfect spot for hanging towels on it. It opens into what used to be a bedroom, but is now an open sitting room at the top of our stairs. Blocking it off offers privacy!

As you may have noticed in the above "before" picture, the large rectangle mirror hung between the sconces. But I thought it was in too much competition with the cow canvas in size, so I switched it out for this oval mirror that I bought at Goodwill a few years ago. It is a vintage beveled mirror and very heavy, as is the rectangle mirror.

I think the oval mirror works well in this bathroom
and I didn't even have to paint it.

It's perfect for the spot!

I'm working on something to go above the mirror.
I know what I want, but just haven't found it yet!
What do you think would work in that space?

(pretend you don't see the painting supplies under the sink)

Well that does it for the Farmhouse bathroom makeover!
Thank you for stopping by, I'd love to know what you think!

Making of a Farmhouse Guest Room Finale...

Welcome back! Finally the end is here. We had so much fun with the makeover of our Farmhouse Guest Bedroom. I know I went a bit crazy with the posts, but between the excitement of doing this makeover and the length of time I had been gone from blogging, I guess I went a bit overboard. But if you stuck with me I truly appreciate it! The picture below is where I left off from my last post. My husband made a fall arrangement in a chicken feeder we picked up at a Flea Market we went to this past summer.

This room gets beautiful sunshine all day long and in the summer it gets so hot. We don't have central air, our Home was built in 1879, so I purchased curtains that are energy efficient and are lined to help block those hot rays. It does make a difference with the temperature in the room.

Here is the beautiful Farmhouse bench my husband made.
It makes a perfect Farmhouse statement in this room.

We had fun adding all those Farmhouse touches, like putting my cow head over the bed with the boxwood wreath around her neck. The Olive Bucket with the twig and flower stems added for texture. And the Farmhouse wall sconce that my husband made from an idea I got from my inspiration photo. But it felt like something was needed in the corner there next to my Mom's dresser.

So we added a barn ladder. My husband had another pulley that we hung and of course a ladder is the perfect place to hang a beautiful quilt or throw.

Here's the room on a normal day. Plenty of sunlight to fill the room.

Do you know what the faux boxwood ball is sitting on?
It's an ironstone spittoon! I know, odd right?

There's a warm glow in the room at night. Its very cozy!

I fell in love with this metal picnic basket with wooden handles
 at the flea market.

The blue cow creamer and the pumpkin pillow I ordered from Society6,
add that punch of teal blue color that goes well with the curtains on the windows.

Thank you again for sticking with me through out this makeover. I had so much fun putting this Farmhouse Guest Room together and hope that maybe you picked up a few good ideas for your Home as well. My hope is that this room provides the comforting feel I hoped it would to whomever may be Our Guest!

Happy decorating!
Hope to see you next time!
