Three's a Collection, One's Kinda Not & some Shelfie's....

Last weekend Brad and I went antiquing.  It was a beautiful weekend
to get out and enjoy a bit of sun.  I was on the lookout for a
couple of friends for my first little brown cow with the bell.
She looked so lonely in that big ol' cupboard.  We went to a
Mega Antique Mall about an hour or so east of us.

We looked thru the whole mall and not a one to be seen.  I mean there
were probably a good 8 or more aisles to look thru, like long grocery
store aisles.  Nothing! But, up front were some locked display cases.
We saved those for last and that's where Brad found these 3.
In the very first display he looked in.

She's the one that got me started.....love that little bell!

Of course I just had to have this one....

I mean, who could resist those pink lips?

and of course, I had to mix it up a bit with this one with her
cute little black spots and those big brown eyes.....

So there, now I have my 3....I'm done, cuz 3's a collection, right?....

Well,  okay maybe one more that's kinda not....
because she fiesta red so she's more just for fun!

And she adds a pop of color on this shelf in my kitchen....

with my Shelfie's....

I found this pig at Goodwill last week when I popped in.
I just had to have "her"!

and Brad found the little bull last weekend while he was
helping me look for my cow's.....
I love my husband!

I'm not sure that they'll always be
~Shelfie's~
But for now they're pretty darn cute sitting here,
staring at me while I do the dishes!
Hmm, I wonder what other shelfie's are out there to find?
Afterall, 3's a collection and I only have 2!

What collections do you have?
Have you ever seen a Fiesta Cow creamer?

As always, Thanks for stopping by!

There's a Cow in my Cupboard....

and I like it!

I saw her, actually one like her, last Saturday right before Brad and
I went out antiquing.  I thought it was the cutest thing!
I was looking around blogland
and stopped at Kim's Savvy Southern Style and there she was!

Don't you just love that little bell?

(sorry so blurry)
Anyway, back to antiquing with my guy!
We went into a fun little shop and looked around and
on my way out I walked past this display case
and there she was! Of course I had to have her!
So I explained to the two ladies my little story,
they wrapped her up for me and we were off.

Perfect in my Cupboard!

When I got Home, I looked up Kim's blog to show Brad and I
came across Note Songs and Sheila had the same sweet little cow.

I tried her in greener pastures....
~sorry, I just had to say that~

But, I thought she would be much safer here in
the cupboard.  Afterall, there are a few other pets
in this house these days! I won't go into that right now....
(3 dogs and 2 cats)
 yeah....lots of tailwaggin' around here!

So, she's back in my cupboard, sittin' pretty with her little bell!
We might be going out antiquing again this weekend.
Maybe I'll find her a friend or two!

What cute little thing have you seen on a blog and bought for yourself?
Oh yeah, Do you have any Cow's in your Cupboard?
I'd love to see them if you do!
Thanks for stopping, I enjoy your visits!

A Vintage Toy Chest Saved....

at least that is what I remember my Mom being told when she bought
this years ago.  I was probably in about 4th or 5th grade when she
bought this and a dresser I have from a lady she worked with.

For years I have had it with me and have always just stored childhood
books and family bibles and memories in it.  Always wanting to do
~something~
with it, but not sure what and I surely didn't want to ruin it!

Ha, ha as if that could happen!

This is what it has looked like for a very long time.
~Chippy~
is in, but not this kind of chippy...right?

Yes, it has seen better days.  It wasn't in this condition when
my Mom first acquired it.  But, that was years ago! It's been
thru alot with her 20 something grandchildren and a few moves
here and there.  So it was time!

Brad and I got to work on it this weekend.  He glued
and patched the areas that were chipping and about to flake
off for good.  And then sanded it smooth.

I remember this photo being almost perfect when we first
brought this piece home, way back when.

You can barely pick out that they are kittens.
See the little black kittens here....

and the little orange kittens here?
The Momma kitty was in the middle at one time, but thru the years
as you can see, she can no longer be seen!  Partly because
of this picture in the middle, is why I never did anything with
this toy chest.  But, Thanks to blogger and all the
~Great Ideas~
out there, I put my thinking cap on and came up with a plan!

But first there was alot of work to do!
We got it all painted, with my husbands mix of paint, and
then we distressed and applied a dark wax. Again, my
husbands mix!  I think it turned out great!

And here it is....waiting for me to find the perfect spot
for it in our Home.  The color is so much richer then I
could get with my little point and shoot.  Even
enhancing my photos I couldn't get the color just right.
Very Frustrating!
This picture is way to "chalky" looking!!

So I did a bit of what we bloggers do and tried out a few looks
and tossed a afghan on it, along with the candle.

~before, of course~
We're pretty happy with how it turned out.
Who wouldn't be right!

Oh yeah, how do you like my choice of burlap in the middle?
Monogrammed of course!
Doesn't the bottom detail just stand out so much better now?
L. o. v. e.  It!

I think my Mom would Love it too!

As my husband said when we first started this project,
it was ready for the trash pile.  Now I think we saved it!

Supplies used:
1 small sample paint from Lowe's
plaster of paris
Minwax paste wax
paint brushes
rags

What do you think it should be used for now? I'm up for ideas!
As always Thanks for stopping by for a visit!

A little Sumpin', sumpin'.....

I've been doing a bit of tweaking in our living room lately.
and I've really been having fun with it.  This is a room
that I haven't done a whole lot too thru the years.  I've only
painted it twice in the 14 years we've lived here.  We've used
it mainly for Christmas time.  Until now!

Now, these past few Snowy weeks, of not being able to
~Go Anywhere!~
because of the weather, I've been updating and rearranging.
I have a "bird" theme going on in this room.
I love my birds!

We also love this antique secretary and have had
it for Years!  This will be a piece that will never
see a paint brush.  It is a very heavy piece and has
never been moved from this site since the day we
moved in almost 14 yrs ago.

I have 2 or 3 more shelves in our basement.
~I think!~

But, I only have 3 of these wooden brackets that hold the shelves
in place.  So I am waiting for my guy to make more.
Tick Toc....I am very patient!

So I came up with an idea for the back of this to update it a bit.
At our local big box store they have a section of pre packaged
material and I found this printed burlap 36" x 44"....

It fit almost perfectly in the back of this cabinet.
I had the velcro and decided that would be perfect
to hold it in place.  Then if I get tired of it I can
simply remove it with no problem.

We have been adding to our white dishware
and I thought what a perfect spot for some of
the random pieces.

My Mom cross stitched this Heart sampler for
me years ago.  My initials are in the center
and I've always kept it in here.  It's perfect for
Valentines Day, but I may move it after that.
It looks like it's competing with the burlap.
Don't you think?

This little pitcher just goes with my bird theme.
I saw it last week at our local Thrift store and it was
a whopping $1.99.  I thought that was too much!
It's small!  But, I went there on Tuesday of this week
and it was in the .10 cent section.  So it came home with me!

So this is the before....not bad!

And this is the after!
Can you see what's missing?
I thought I had everything back in like before....
until I started doing this post....
Oh well, too late to take another picture!
I'm sure you've all done that before!
Thanks for your visit!
