Couldn't Be More Proud....

Of this girl! Mallory is 14 yrs old and is a freshman in H.S. She is very talented musically and she is also becoming so in sports. She has alot of friends, but at this age "friends" can be so cruel. She tries to be a friend to everyone, even those that others may not want to be associated with. This makes us as her parents very proud! She also makes wise choices for her age. For example, this past Saturday she was invited to a movie night/sleepover at a "friends" house. There were 7 girls total, all 14 yrs old. The movie was just to be watched at this particular friends house where the sleepover was. No problem right? Wrong! I drop her off there at the designated time of 7:30 p.m. and within half an hour I get a text message from Mallory saying they are all watching the movie Paranormal Activity! Hmmm, that movie is not even out yet, I am told by Hillary her 19 yr old sister and she, who doesn't mind scarey movies won't see it and none of her "college age" friends will either. And IF they have, they have been totally creeped out by it! Amanda, my 21 yrd old, along with her boyfriend say the same thing. Mallory texts that she is ALONE in her friends bedroom while the other 6 girls are out watching the movie. Her choice, and I might say it was a very wise choice and that makes us VERY proud of her! She admittedly does not like scarey movies, so even though she was an invited "friend" to this movie night, KNOWING Mallory was not interested in the movie and was ALONE in the bedroom for 2 hours, they all kept watching this movie and left her by herself. I asked her several times if she wanted to come home and she said No she would just wait for them to be done! She knows how cruel "friends" can be and she would end up paying the consequence if she did leave! She is not that kind of friend! The mother was not home either, but she is the one that somehow got a copy of this movie and left these 14 yr olds to watch it. We advised Mallory not to listen to any of their stories about this movie, because her mind does not sit well with that sort of thing. It is disturbing and she knew it would bother her. I am proud, because she told these "friends" that her Mom doesn't want her watching this movie and she stuck to it! Needless to say, there are those that are still today having trouble because they watched that movie. And I am sure the others won't admit they are as well. I say this because the topic of this movie keeps popping up at their lunch breaks at school which is keeping it on all their minds. Demon talk, as such, that these girls should not even be having. Two of these girls missed school on Monday. One said she lost soooo much sleep that she started throwing up and blamed it on the movie. The other won't admit to it, but is saying she just had a sore throat....right! My problem with all of this is that they even had the movie at all AND what kind of "friends" do that, invite someone over and leave them alone for 2 hrs in another room? And where are the parents when these things are going on? Am I too protective? Am I the weird one that thinks this is wrong? I would NEVER allow my daughters to invite friends over and leave one out or have activities that they ALL wouldn't enjoy! And they wouldn't do that anyway! It's not right and I don't understand people that do that! But, one thing is for sure....I as her mother, am VERY PROUD of her choices and the kind of FRIEND she is!

What A Cutie....

My daughter Amanda wanted her so badly. She looked at a few of the surrounding shelters and went and visited them and on one night this little kitten was brought in while she was there. They were just closing so she had to wait a few days until she could go back and adopt her. She was only 6 wks old and was found by a river in not the best of circumstances. The shelter had named her Tiny and she was. The night she adopted her she brought her to our HOME to show us. She "Tiny" pounced around and played, she was sooo cute! Amanda took a few days to come up with a new name for her. Because she was soooo playful, the perfect name for her was Moxie. It had to be the right name and it fit! Then a few days later Moxie started sneezing and then it turned into a congested cough. Amanda was told this is common for little kittens like Moxie when they are in a shelter with other cats and it should go away within a few days. Well, the outcome was not good and after a very hard, stressful and emotional night, yes it happened that fast. Moxie didn't make it and she lost her struggle Saturday morning. My daughter, in the 11 short days she had her, was already so attached to this sweet little thing that nobody else wanted. Needless to say it was not a good day! I just happened to be at Amanda's apartment when it took place and I am glad that I was. She would not have been able to handle what had just happened to her new little friend! Poor baby Moxie!

Poor Loosey....

She just loves to sit and look out this door!

Waiting patiently for someone to walk by.
Maybe they will stop and want to play with her.
Or maybe she will scare a squirrel or bird or maybe, just guard her land.

Or maybe....
NOTHING exciting will happen!

Guess no one wants to play.
Back to my comfy pillow!

A Much Needed ME Day....

I have not been able to get out and shop and browse and just do what I have wanted to do for a couple of weeks now. So I had the opportunity yesterday to do just that. After informing my 9th grader that I was going into the "big" city and making sure she DID NOT need to be picked up for any reason BEFORE the H.S. play was over later that night.....I headed out. Only to get a text message about 8 minutes out of town that she forgot her notebook for her class and now.....pleeeezzzeee!!!! So of course, I had to turn around and drive back home then drive to the H.S. and deliver her notebook. But after that, the day was mine!

My first stop was Marshall's. With intentions just to get my "fix" and look and think about what possibly I might "need". Of course there's nothing I NEED, but I always seem to find something.

And this is what I found. I only paid $3.99 for it and there was only one.

So, it is my version of this ....

I LOVE this platter and have admired it EVERY time I see it on someone's blog.

But for now I will have to enjoy my plate. I hope to find a "cloche" of sorts for the top of it. I think it would compliment it nicely!

I also bought these 3 movies....at Marshalls and all for less then $5.00 a piece!

I LOVE Serendipity!

Then of course what would a day out be without stopping at
Bath and Body Works?

Gotta have my candle fix!

These are yummy candles!

I also bought some new flannel PJ's.
I LOVE my flannels!

When I arrived home this was waiting for me.
There's nothing like a new magazine waiting in the mailbox.
Gotta LOVE that!

What a GREAT ME Day!

Feeling Overwhelmed....

I try my best to make my HOME a warm and welcoming place for my family and friends! But, truthfully, lately I am feeling so overwhelmed by the amount of stuff and the size of my home. As some of you may know, we have two college age daughters who no longer "live" here on a weekly basis. But, they do come home from time to time and rummage thru their things and take what they want and leave the rest! Leaving the rest....for mom to deal with! That is where the problem starts. I am an at HOME mom....but, I can only pick up after them for so long. If it were just a dish left on a table or shoes in the wrong area, no problem. But I am talking about totes brought down from the attic and messed up and left, more often then not all over the floorand not neatly. I am overwhelmed and just need to vent to some others who may know how I feel! I don't mean to be negative, any suggestions will be appreciated! Thanks for stopping and understanding!
